We're nearly two months removed from the Philadelphia Eagles celebrating their second ever Super Bowl Championship down Broad Street in front of over a million fans and many more watching from home. Saquon Barkley signed in the offseason and went on to have a historic 2,000 yard season, young rookies on defense like Cooper DeJean, Quinyon Mitchell and Jalen Carter made huge impacts, all while their former second round quarterback, Jalen Hurts, delivered when it mattered most and captured the Super Bowl MVP.

We're less than a month out from the 2025 NFL Draft and most teams have made their main free agent signings. The reining champions resigned Zach Baun to a four year deal making him the fourth highest paid linebacker in the league and extended Saquon to make him the highest paid running back. Their massive changes have come mostly to the defense. Darius Slay is a Steeler, Milton Williams is a Patriot, Josh Sweat is a Cardinal, Mekhi Becton is a Charger, and they traded CJ Gardner-Johnson to the Texans.
While technically SIX starters on defense have departed (Oren Burks started in the Super Bowl), according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles will acquire four compensatory picks for Williams, Sweat, Becton and Isaiah Rodgers who left for Minnesota. They will be 2026 draft picks, and will now have 20 draft picks in the next 2 drafts. They will have the flexibility to trade up in the next two drafts, and/or package picks to trade for a ready made star player. So as a die-hard Eagles fan, I think we should pump the brakes on the player losses we’ve had so far because over the past half decade, Howie Roseman has proved to be an elite General Manager in the NFL. Unlike the Sixers, we should trust this process.
